Zurich Launches Josy: A Temporary Circular Economy Project
The city of Zurich introduces Josy, a temporary project aimed at promoting a free circular economy. This initiative, approved with a budget of 5.4 million francs, will operate until the end of 2028. Starting October 8, 2025, residents can donate and collect well-preserved everyday items for free at Josy.
Josy, one of Zurich's 79 free circular economy measures, will open on the Josef-Areal in district 5. It will function as a supervised swap service, operating from Wednesdays to Saturdays. The project's primary goal is to reduce waste, conserve resources, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
Customers can donate intact items at Josy, which will then be made available for free to others. Additionally, Josy offers supplementary services such as repair and lending. Partners in the free circular economy can also use the space for free. The project's activities will be conducted by an organization yet to be specified.
Josy, a temporary use project until 2028, aims to foster a free circular economy in Zurich. By encouraging the reuse and repair of everyday items, it seeks to reduce waste and its environmental impact. The project opens on October 8, 2025, on the Josef-Areal, offering a platform for free exchange, repair, and lending services.
