Truck Ban and Tricycle Rest Day Policy Introduced in Zamboanga City

In an effort to ease traffic congestion, the Zamboanga City Government has amended the truck ban and introduced a tricycle rest day policy. The changes are based on Executive Order No. KHYM 016-2025 and Ordinance 185.

Truck Ban

The truck ban now covers major thoroughfares and designated streets in Zamboanga City. Cargo trucks weighing at least five gross tons are prohibited from operating on weekdays (Monday to Friday), excluding holidays, with extended ban hours set by EO KHYM 016-2025. The truck ban hours are:

  • Morning: 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. (extended from the previous 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.)
  • Evening: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Exemptions to the truck ban include fuel tankers, LPG carriers, trucks transporting flammable or combustible gas cylinders, Zamboanga City Water District tankers, refrigerated vans carrying goods for immediate consumption, trucks carrying perishable or agricultural products, and trucks transporting factory workers.

Tricycle Rest Day Policy

Tricycles in Zamboanga City also have a mandated "rest day" on specific weekdays, based on the last digit of their license plates. The rest day schedule is as follows:

  • Monday: plates ending in 1 and 2
  • Tuesday: plates ending in 3 and 4
  • Wednesday: plates ending in 5 and 6
  • Thursday: plates ending in 7 and 8
  • Friday: plates ending in 9 and 0

The enforcement of the tricycle rest day policy will commence after a week-long information dissemination campaign.

Mayor Khymer Olaso has expressed his support for the strict enforcement of the tricycle rest day policy as a strategy to reduce traffic congestion. Lobregat also supports this initiative.

Article 6, Section 3 of Ordinance 185 restricts the movement of tricycles based on the last digit of their license plates. The Zamboanga City Government is enforcing this provision to ensure a smoother flow of traffic in the city.

It is important to note that the truck ban does not apply to the website Zamboanga.

These changes aim to improve the overall traffic situation in Zamboanga City by restricting cargo truck movements during peak hours on weekdays and regulating the operation of tricycles based on their license plates.
