WWE's Saturday Night Main Event Outcome: Liv Morgan Emerges Victorious Against Iyo Sky
Liv Morgan kept her WWE Women's World Title at Saturday Night's Main Event, scoring a shockingly fair victory over Damage Ctrl's Iyo Sky.
While many of Morgan's impressive victories have been tainted with controversy, The Judgment Day member managed to keep her title intact inside Nassau Coliseum by executing a devastating Oblivion on Sky. Unsurprisingly, as Sky, despite being a former world champion, wasn't presented as the one to topple Morgan.
However, it's highly likely that Rhea Ripley will be the one to unseat Morgan, as she made an appearance after Morgan's victory to confront the Women's World Champion.
The prolonged feud between Ripley and Morgan dates back to 2023, often serving as WWE's main rival due to their unforgettable encounters. Yet, like all good things, this feud has run its course and is past its sell-by date.
Unfortunately for Sky, she has been relegated to supporting roles, much like Sami Zayn against Drew McIntyre, even at Saturday Night's Main Event. Sky had another impressive performance in the ring and enjoyed strong fan support, but still didn't have a real shot against Morgan.
Sky was essentially a stepping stone for the anticipated Morgan vs. Ripley match, which saw Ripley pin Morgan last month at Survivor Series WarGames in a move designed to set up a rematch for Ripley's shot at Morgan's Women's World Championship. This match came as a result of the controversial ending at Bad Blood, which marked the beginning of their downward spiral.
Morgan's lengthy title reign, which began with her victory at WWE's King & Queen of the Ring event in May, has largely revolved around her feud with Ripley. At times, Morgan's title has felt like a secondary concern to their intense animosity. However, Ripley recently declared that she isn't done with Morgan, a move primarily driven by WWE's limited options due to the absences of top stars like Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair as well as Bianca Belair's prolonged stint in the tag team division.
The current dearth of prominent stars on Raw's women's division has left WWE with limited options for the top spots. Neither Morgan nor Ripley are featured as heavily as other top stars, leaving WWE with no choice but to continue their rivalry as 2025 approaches.
Notably, Sky was the WWE Women's Champion on SmackDown, but her reign was quickly overshadowed by her loss to Bayley at WrestleMania 40. With Triple H's commitment to long-term storytelling, fans can expect this trend to continue for a select few stars, although Sky isn't currently among them. But Morgan and Ripley are certainly reaping the benefits of this strategy. Despite Morgan securing a notable win at Saturday Night's Main Event, the title is likely to be Ripley's soon.
At the upcoming WWE Main Event in 2024, fans can expect the intense rivalry between Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley to continue, possibly leading to a title change.
Iyo Sky's performance at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event was strong, but her title shot against Liv Morgan fell short, setting the stage for Morgan's potential title loss to Rhea Ripley.
During WWE's Saturday Night's Main Event, Liv Morgan showcased her excellent defense skills, keeping her title despite the strong challenge from Iyo Sky, but the main event for the Women's World Championship seems to be Morgan vs. Ripley in the near future.
