The Rhoen-Rennsteig-Sparkasse and the local police are joining forces to host an informative event aimed at raising awareness about scams and providing practical prevention tips. Scheduled for Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Advisory Center Steinweg, Rhoen-Rennsteig-Sparkasse, Suhl, the event will start at 9:00.

Scams like the grandparent scam and impersonation of fake police officers continue to pose a serious threat, not just for the elderly. Common types of scams that are likely to be discussed at the event include phishing and smishing (SMS phishing), unexpected money scams, employment scams, toll fee scams, jury duty scams, cryptocurrency and investment frauds, and grandparent scams or shock messages.

During the event, the police prevention officer will provide specific behavioral tips to help attendees recognize and avoid these scams. The presentation will also demonstrate possible courses of action in the event of a scam attempt.

The police's prevention officer is expected to emphasize the importance of never clicking on links or attachments from unknown or suspicious senders, verifying suspicious messages independently, and being cautious of urgent requests for payments or personal information. Other prevention tips may include using strong, unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication, reporting suspicious messages, and staying informed about fraud prevention through official channels.

This comprehensive approach to scam awareness reflects current realities in 2025, combining identification of typical scams with actionable prevention advice from both the law enforcement and banking sectors in Germany. The event is a joint collaboration between the Rhoen-Rennsteig-Sparkasse and the police and is aimed at increasing awareness of criminal methods among customers and the wider public.
