Weekend restrictions enforced in full force

The Norderelb bridge, a vital artery for traffic in Hamburg, is set for a significant transformation as construction work begins in late September 2025. For three days, from Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 PM, to Monday, September 22, 2025, at 5:00 AM, the bridge will undergo additional construction work. During this period, no passage will be possible on the affected section. The Norderelb bridge, which is 40 years old, is scheduled to be replaced by a new construction in the future. Simultaneously, Deutsche Bahn will be working on the Moorfleet tunnel during this period, leading to potential congestion around the Elbtunnel. The responsible authority for the A1 highway between the Hamburg-Billstedt and Hamburg-Nordwest junctions is the Hamburg Senate Directorate for Mobility and Public Works. The entire A1 section will be closed during this time, and traffic will be diverted accordingly. For traffic moving south, the detour will be via B5, B75, and A255 to rejoin the A1 at Hamburg-Billstedt. On the other hand, for traffic moving north, the detour will begin at the Norderelbe interchange via the A255, the B75, and the B5 back to the A1 at Hamburg-Billstedt. It's important to note that the Norderelb bridge remains a permanent construction site, and repeated restrictions are likely until the new construction is completed. The replacement of the Norderelb bridge is planned for a few years. Approximately 136,000 vehicles cross the Norderelb bridge daily, and during the construction period, a speed limit of 60 km/h will apply on the bridge. Additional construction work on the Norderelb bridge is just one part of the ongoing efforts to improve the city's infrastructure. The Hamburg Senate Directorate for Mobility and Public Works continues to work tirelessly to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the city. Stay updated for more information on traffic conditions and detour routes during the construction period.
