Hey there! For daycare centers in Schleswig-Holstein, there's some exciting news. Get ready to see an increase in funding for these essential facilities!

Starting from 2026, Schleswig-Holstein government is pumping €35 million more yearly into the coffers to support qualified staff at daycare centers. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs in Kiel, this generous boost will help maintain the current personal budget in these centers.

This extra cash will help fund personnel costs for local caregivers, with the reimbursement percentage increasing from the current 95% to 95.5% from January 2026.

It's important to mention that the state's contribution to daycare financing hovers around €761 million for the current year.

Skilled Worker Shortage

State Secretary for Social Affairs Johannes Albig (Greens) is grinning from ear to ear! After almost a year and a half of discussions, they've hammered out a consensus on financing options for daycare centers in Schleswig-Holstein. The latest public service collective agreement is set to be shared with daycare workers in the state, adding a layer of stability to the situation regarding skilled staff.

According to Albig, the drop in the number of children requiring care is minimal, but the overall quality of the staff is higher than expected. But, there's still a significant shortage of skilled staff in these facilities.

Albig attributes the decreasing number of children being cared for to a recent trend, emphasizing that there's still work to be done to honor the fundamental mission of early childhood education.
