Voluntary separation proposal extended to select VW workforce

The automotive landscape is undergoing a dramatic shift, and Volkswagen is squarely in the thick of it, navigating towards a bold new era, primarily focusing on job reductions.

By 2030, approximately 35,000 jobs are anticipated to be eliminated, many of them at the Wolfsburg plant, with around 20,000 of these job losses already agreed upon according to previous reports. However, these target numbers haven't been achieved yet. Now, VW is set on persuading employees to part ways voluntarily, expediting job cuts via a new initiative.

VW's New Strategy: "Perspective Workshop"

Employees who depart from the company in the short term normally do so through early retirement packages, severance deals or simple retirement. With the 20,000 jobs, roughly half of the planned 35,000 job cuts by 2030, have already been prearranged. Yet, VW is eager to prompt more employees to leave—all while maintaining a socially responsible image. This is precisely why VW is now banking on a new project: the "Perspective Workshop."

VW: Witnessing Thousands of Voluntary Departures

This specialized department caters to employees whose positions have been eliminated or who have agreed to these changes. Its goal is to offer employees professional reorientation possibilities without immediate financial repercussions. According to the Braunschweigische Zeitung, a transfer to the transfer cost center will be facilitated, retaining the current employment terms (full-time, part-time), the existing salary grade/salary group, and for the purpose of professional reorientation and qualification if necessary.

Post-VW Life

Program participants receive individual guidance and have the opportunity to pursue further education or retrain, cultivating a new career path—either within Volkswagen or with another company, even in the Wolfsburg/Braunschweig region. They are supported by job coaches, who aid in developing a personal development plan as reported by the "Braunschweigische Zeitung."

For the affected employees, the project presents an opportunity for a new beginning. The "Perspective Workshop" aims to make this transition as personal and supportive as possible. Despite this, the decision isn't easy for many, particularly those who've spent decades working at VW.
