Verizon to Boost Fiber Footprint with $20B Frontier Acquisition
Verizon is poised to substantially expand its fiber network across the nation through a potential acquisition of Frontier Communications, the leading provider of fiber internet in the U.S. Frontier, with its 2.2 million fiber subscribers across 25 states, could add significantly to Verizon's existing 7.4 million Fios connections in nine states and Washington, D.C.
Frontier has invested heavily in its network, pouring $4.1 billion into upgrades and expansions over the last four years. The company plans to build out an additional 2.8 million fiber locations by the end of 2026. Verizon, in turn, expects to realize at least $500 million in run-rate cost synergies by year three from the acquisition. The telecommunications giant plans to integrate Frontier's fiber network into its Fios network and wireless assets, creating a robust nationwide fiber footprint.
As of October 2025, there is no concrete information on the exact timing of the acquisition. Neither Verizon nor Frontier has publicly announced an acquisition agreement or a specific date for the deal.
The potential acquisition of Frontier by Verizon promises to significantly expand Verizon's fiber network, enhancing its competitiveness in the broadband market. Frontier's extensive fiber network and Verizon's integration plans could lead to improved services and increased efficiency. However, the final details and timeline of this deal remain to be announced.
