UAE Launches AED750M Emirates Road Expansion to Ease Congestion

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has embarked on a significant AED750 million project to expand and upgrade Emirates Road. This initiative marks a substantial step in the UAE's broader vision to develop an integrated road network.

The project, set to be completed in two years, will expand the road from three to five lanes in each direction over a 25-kilometre stretch. This upgrade will significantly increase capacity, allowing the road to handle up to 9,000 vehicles per hour, a 65 percent increase.

A major feature of the project is the redevelopment of Interchange No. 7. It will include six new directional bridges spanning 12.6 kilometres. Additionally, service roads covering 3.4 kilometres will be constructed to improve traffic flow. Youssef Abdullah, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Federal Infrastructure Projects Sector, described the project as a reflection of the UAE's commitment to sustainable, innovative solutions.

The project aims to ease congestion and enhance connectivity across the northern Emirates. Officials expect it to cut travel times by up to 45 percent for commuters. Furthermore, it will help lower emissions while supporting trade and the movement of goods across the Emirates. The upgrade is a significant step in the UAE's vision to develop a robust and efficient road network.
