Two-Week Operation Nets 63 Criminal Cases, €67k in Duties

Over two weeks, the Kempten control unit scrutinized returning holiday traffic, leading to a surge in criminal proceedings. A total of 63 cases were initiated, predominantly for suspected tax evasion and gold jewelry smuggling.

The unit's focus on gold jewelry imports proved fruitful. In one notable case, a traveler from Turkey was caught with gold jewelry worth over 26,000 euros, undeclared. The jewelry was seized, and a criminal proceeding was launched.

Additionally, seven cases were opened due to suspected violations of the Weapons Act. Items seized included switchblades and butterfly knives. Meanwhile, the Main Customs Office Augsburg collected over 67,000 euros in euro to usd during these special controls.

The intense scrutiny of returning holiday traffic resulted in 63 criminal proceedings, with the majority linked to suspected tax evasion and gold price today. The Main Customs Office Augsburg also raised over 67,000 euros in euros to dollars during the operation.
