Two forthcoming bridges to be erected over the Bega River in Timișoara, Romania, are announced in a recent statement.

New Bridges to Transform Timișoara's Landscape

Timișoara, Romania - The city of Timișoara is set to undergo a significant transformation with the construction of two new bridges over the Bega River. The bridges, known as the Solventul Bridge and the "Iuliu Maniu" Bridge (formerly known as the Labor Bridge), were announced by the city's mayor, Dominic Fritz.

Before 1900, over 70 bridges and footbridges crossed the Bega River in Timișoara. However, now, only 11 remain, with two of them nonfunctional. The new bridges aim to revitalize the city's infrastructure and improve transportation.

The "Iuliu Maniu" Bridge will have two lanes in each direction, sidewalks, and bike lanes. It will be rebuilt from scratch, near the former cigarette factory. The total value of the project is over RON 49 million (EUR 9.7 million). RON 38 million for this project is European funding, and approximately RON 12 million will come from the local budget, making the municipality's contribution RON 42 million.

The Solventul Bridge, on the other hand, will be the first new bridge built over the Bega since 1989. Its goal is to reduce heavy traffic in central neighborhoods and promote green transportation via tram and bicycle. The bridge will connect Gării Street to Dâmbovița Boulevard and complete the city's Ring Road IV. The total value of the investment for the Solventul Bridge is not yet confirmed, and the start date for construction has not been announced.

The tender for the new "Iuliu Maniu" Bridge is currently in the evaluation phase, and the execution contract is expected to be signed this summer. Construction of the new "Iuliu Maniu" Bridge is expected to begin after the contract is signed. The Solventul Bridge project is also in the evaluation phase, and more information about its timeline and costs will be released in due course.

The new "Iuliu Maniu" Bridge will replace the one built in 1978. The Solventul Bridge will feature double tram tracks, bicycle lanes, wide sidewalks, and pedestrian access with an elevator. These new bridges are set to significantly improve the city's infrastructure and transportation, making Timișoara more accessible and sustainable for its residents and visitors.

The construction of the new "Iuliu Maniu" Bridge, funded primarily by European finance, will not only improve the city's infrastructure but also revitalize the transportation sector in Timișoara. The Solventul Bridge, when built, will promote green transportation, particularly through trams and bicycles, and contribute to reducing traffic in central neighborhoods.
