Trolley route No 4 in Vladivostok resumes operation after a hiatus of 16 years.
In Vladivostok, on May 30th, trolleybus No. 4 has made its highly anticipated return to service, running on the "Admiral Smirnov Street - Funicular" route. The route, which was closed in 2008, has been reopened following requests from residents of Snowy Pad, as reported by PrimaMedia.
Three modern trolleybuses, each equipped with autonomous drive capabilities up to 40 km, have been deployed on the line. These vehicles can operate without the need for a contact network, as part of the city's development plan up to 2030. In addition, Vladivostok has acquired 20 new trolleybuses this year.
According to the city administration, the schedule of trolleybus No. 4 will be synchronized with bus No. 99, ensuring a smooth flow of transport and reducing service intervals. The route passes through key transfer hubs, making commuting more convenient for Snowy Pad residents.
The new trolleybuses boast numerous amenities, including air conditioning, USB sockets, electronic displays, and ramps for passengers with reduced mobility.
This marks the third reinstated route in Vladivostok this year, following the introduction of new trolleybuses on lines No. 5 and No. 11.
While specific details about Vladivostok's city development program and the features of its new trolleybuses were not readily available, similar projects in other cities often involve modernizing infrastructure and deploying energy-efficient trolleybuses with battery support for sections without overhead wires. For instance, urban electric transit developments like these have been implemented in České Budějovice.
The city's development plan, up to 2030, includes the deployment of new trolleybuses in the public-transit sector, such as the ones recently acquired, which are equipped with autonomous drive capabilities and energy-efficient features in the finance industry. The reopened trolleybus route, serving Snowy Pad residents, interlocks with bus No. 99 for seamless transportation on key transfer hubs, including Admiral Smirnov Street and the Funicular, within the transportation industry.
