Transit Agency of Northern Kentucky Introduces 'Tap & Save' Flexible Fare Payment Program for Rides

The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) has unveiled a new program called Tap & Save, offering a flexible, pay-as-you-go fare payment system for public transit commuters. This innovative program is designed to make commuting easier and more affordable for riders.

To get started with Tap & Save, riders can load funds onto their EZfare account via the Transit app or an EZfare smart card. Upon boarding, riders simply tap their card to pay, and the system automatically tracks their fare spending. The program ensures riders never pay more than the lowest possible fare by applying daily and monthly fare caps.

For fixed routes, the fare caps are set at $4 per day and $70 per month. Once a rider reaches these caps, all additional rides within that day or month are free, providing significant cost savings for frequent commuters. There is no requirement to buy day or monthly passes in advance, giving riders flexibility without upfront commitment.

EZfare smart cards are sold at TANK’s sales office in Ft. Wright, and the Transit app is available on Google Play and the App Store. Paper passes and cash payments remain options for those who prefer them.

In a statement, TANK's marketing manager, Jenny Kammes, said, "Tap & Save provides a simpler, smarter way to pay for transit, focusing on flexibility and affordability for riders."

The Tap & Save program is now compatible with Metro services in Cincinnati, allowing riders to use the app and card across both systems. However, it is worth noting that there has been no mention of changes in the daily or monthly fare caps for the combined TANK and Metro services.

In summary, Tap & Save is a fare-capping system with daily and monthly limits of $4 and $70 respectively on fixed routes, removing the need for advance pass purchases and ensuring cost savings by automatically limiting fare expenditures. This program offers a smarter way to pay for transit services, ensuring riders always get the best deal without the need for planning or math.

The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) has extended the Tap & Save program to include Metro services in Cincinnati.

Riders can now use the Tap & Save system across both TANK and Metro services for a simpler, smarter way to pay for transit.

EZfare smart cards, which can be used with the Tap & Save program, are available at TANK’s sales office in Ft. Wright and on the Transit app.

This finance-friendly program, designed for public transit commuters, offers a flexible, pay-as-you-go fare payment system that operates across industries, including fintech.
