Berlin's Wuhlheide Tram Line Restarts After Bridge Demolition

Tram services have resumed along Berlin's Wuhlheide tram line as of May 30, 2025, following the demolition of the disputed Wuhlheide Bridge. The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) announced the restart, confirming that the resumption was executed smoothly.

For an initial phase, line M17 is operating as a shuttle service, running every 10 minutes between Blockdammweg and S-Bahnhof Schöneweide. Meanwhile, the redirected paths for the other tram lines remain in effect.

The BVG reported that experts had to inspect the tracks and rebuild/connect the overhead lines before reopening traffic in the morning. As of Saturday, all tram lines in the area are to run as usual, with the transition website being utilized to update all information systems, duty schedules, and timetables for stable operation.

Pedestrian and bicycle traffic is also available through Treskowallee on Edisonstraße, although the absence of a traffic light at the intersection necessitates the presence of safety personnel to manage tram and non-motorized traffic. Emergency vehicles, police, and fire services should be able to pass through the area without hindrance, at least in the direction of Treskowallee/Edisonstraße.

Motorists, however, will need to be patient as the railroad and road network continue to experience disruptions due to the bridge demolition. The transport authority has projected initial relief for motor traffic to take place around June 6, 2025, contingent on construction progress and current weather conditions. In total, six of nine demolition sites have been cleared, with the entirety of the construction site for the bridge demolition expected to be completed by June 27 at the earliest.

This reinstatement of tram services marks a vital enhancement for public transport connectivity in the area, although motor traffic should still brace for more weeks of delays due to ongoing bridge demolition.

The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) has restarted services on Berlin's Wuhlheide tram line, which is significant for the transportation industry in the area. Meanwhile, the finance department is monitoring the projected relief for motor traffic, scheduled around June 6, 2025, given the ongoing bridge demolition in the public-transit sector.
