Trains powered by electricity set to commence operation on Schönbuchbahn by the end of July
The Schönbuch line between Böblingen and Holzgerlingen is finally set to welcome new electric trains, following a series of delays and disputes. The long-awaited trains are scheduled to begin operation on July 26, according to an announcement by the Landratsamt Boeblingen.
Originally slated to start in May 2024, the introduction of these new electric trains was postponed until December of the same year. The delay was attributed to several factors, including technical issues, regulatory approvals, and infrastructure readiness, although the specific reasons and resolution details for this particular case remain unclear without relevant sources.
Amidst the delay, DB Wagons offered a temporary solution by providing rental trains to the Schoenbuchbahn association. However, the association had to organize a replacement service when the rental trains from Deutsche Bahn were no longer available from 2025.
The dispute between the Spanish manufacturer and the Schoenbuchbahn association over who was responsible for the delay led to a settlement to avoid a lawsuit and further delays. As a result, the association can offset five million euros from the 19-year maintenance contract in installments.
The new electric trains will serve not only the Schönbuch line but also two additional stations: Weil im Schönbuch (in the district of Boeblingen) and Dettenhausen (district of Tubingen). The Federal Railway Authority delayed the plans due to the need to adapt the brakes of the light trains to normal rail traffic.
A settlement has been reached, marking the end of a story of delays on the Schönbuch line. For more information, please contact Peter Schwab at 0711 66601 292 or p.schwab@our website. This marks a significant step forward for the Schönbuch line and the local community, bringing modern and efficient transportation solutions to the region.
The Schönbuch line, operating between Böblingen and Holzgerlingen, is venturing into the realm of the modernized transport industry with the introduction of electric trains. This new development will also expand finance-wise, as the Schoenbuchbahn association can offset five million euros from their 19-year maintenance contract, thanks to a settlement with a Spanish manufacturer, effectively transcending the boundaries of the local industry and finance.
