Train Halted Due to Faulty Wheel Bolts and Malfunctioning Brake System: Police Intervention Required
On Friday, September 12, 2025, a Hungarian-registered MAN articulated lorry was pulled over by the traffic division of the Bielefeld highway police on the A2. The incident occurred around 11:00 AM at the Suřenheide rest area.
During the inspection, several defects were discovered. The service and parking brake of the trailer were found to be defective. Five of the ten wheel bolts were completely broken off and missing, with the remaining bolts so worn and loose that they were likely to break off soon. This condition could have caused the wheel to come off at full speed on the highway.
The driver, a 59-year-old man from Serbia, was prohibited from continuing his journey until the defects had been repaired. Approximately 545 euros in fines were imposed on the driver.
The officers who conducted the inspection were from the traffic division of the Bielefeld highway police. The inspection revealed that the vehicle's condition could have had severe consequences if the vehicle had continued to be driven. A security deposit was paid on the spot.
