DGT-Shell Green Skills EV Training Program Empowers Indian Youth
In a significant move towards equipping the Indian youth with practical skills for the future, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) and Shell India launched the Green Skills-focused EV training program in 2025. The initiative, aimed at fostering expertise in electric vehicle (EV) technology and green skills, is a collaborative effort to meet the demands of the growing green economy and EV sector.
The program features a multi-tier curriculum, with a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at four National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), a 90-hour job-oriented course at 12 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with Shell-supported EV skill labs, and a 50-hour foundational green skills module at other ITIs without labs.
The curriculum encompasses EV systems and diagnostics, battery technology, digital tools, safety protocols, and industry-relevant practices. Hands-on training with simulators and diagnostics is a key component, and the program offers joint certification from Shell and DGT. The program is being implemented by Edunet Foundation across key states including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
This initiative empowers youth by providing industry-aligned technical training, offering certification recognised by both government and industry, supporting job placements with structured support mechanisms, and strengthening the skilled workforce necessary for India’s clean energy transition and growth in green jobs.
By creating specialized EV skill labs in select ITIs and NSTIs, the program actively addresses the skills gap and prepares youth to benefit from growing employment opportunities within the green economy and the electric mobility revolution.
Meanwhile, the Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC), constituted in 1978 to ensure the effective functioning of offshore security arrangements, held its 137th meeting in New Delhi on June 12, 2025. The meeting, chaired by the Indian Coast Guard, emphasised the importance of energy security and taking all possible measures to ensure the security of offshore assets for their contribution to the Nation's growth and independence. The committee underscored the importance of enhancing joint responses to safeguard vital energy infrastructure and placed special emphasis on strengthening coordination amongst agencies to address emerging challenges and ensure the security of offshore assets.
However, the meeting did not discuss the strategic benefits, examples of implementation, or the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan initiatives. The focus was on reviewing the preparedness and effectiveness of the security of India's offshore installations and enhancing joint response mechanisms.
The Green Skills EV Training Program, initiated by DGT and Shell India, aims to support the growing green economy and EV sector by offering industry-relevant finance and energy knowledge to Indian youth. In the context of the electric mobility revolution, the program's curriculum includes training on EV systems, battery technology, and digital tools, with the ultimate goal of filling the skills gap and fostering employment opportunities within the industry.
