Thousands Honor the Steps Taken by Toyota's Honorary Chairman to Expand Globally
Toyota Bids Farewell to Honorary Chairman Shoichiro Toyoda
Toyota Motor Corporation has paid tribute to the late Honorary Chairman Shoichiro Toyoda in a series of events held across Japan, including Tokyo and Toyota City. The ceremonies were attended by around 6,000 guests, each celebrating the profound impact Toyoda had on the company and its culture.
One of the most significant tributes was the unveiling of a bust of Shoichiro Toyoda at Nagoya University, his alma mater. This commemoration underscores the lasting connection and passion he held for his educational roots.
Toyota's ongoing initiatives continue to reflect Toyoda's cherished ideals, such as innovation and sustainability. The Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, for example, carries forward his spirit with new mobility projects inspired by his vision.
Toyota's corporate culture and mission continue to reflect the vision established by Toyoda during his leadership. Toyota Times, the company's official publication, includes original footage of Shoichiro's early years, his appointment as the first post-merger president of Toyota Motor Corporation, and father-son talks with Akio, Toyota's current Chairman.
During the Tokyo ceremony, Chairman Akio spoke on behalf of the family, quoting Toyoda, "Toyota will carry on making products (monozukuri) and developing people." Chairman of the Board of Directors Takeshi Uchiyamada shared memories of Toyoda and emphasized the importance of "making products" and "developing people" in his guidance when developing the first-generation Prius.
Chairman Uchiyamada also delivered a condolence message at an unspecified time, while Akio did so during the Tokyo ceremony. The Honorary Chairman's enduring message to employees was highlighted throughout the events, as was the display of cars that held a special significance in his life.
Shoichiro Toyoda passed away in February, and his farewell events marked the end of an era for Toyota Motor Corporation. Despite his passing, his legacy lives on through Toyota's ongoing innovations and exhibits, ensuring his vision and values continue to shape the company's future.
