The ink drop fest went down during the Thailand-Ghana Business Conference at Grand Fortune, Bangkok, Thailand last Sunday, March 19, 2023. Reps from the JGC, led by none other than CEO Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong, and the Thai companies signed on the dotted line.
Where was everyone else during this whirlwind ceremony, you might ask? Well, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in charge of Crops, Yaw Addo Frimpong, was keepin' it real, as was Ghana's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mrs. Florence B. Akonor, and Honorary Consul of Ghana in Thailand, Dr. Sicha Singsomboon. Oh, and the Founder and Executive Chairman of the JGC, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, had his boots on the ground too, of course.
The event, themed 'Ghana-Thailand Business Forum; Partnership for Sustainable Rice Production in Ghana', brought together the cream of Thailand's rice community and a Ghanaian delegation, led by the JGC's big boss.
Now, who made up this high-falutin' Ghanaian delegation, you say? Experts and researchers from the University of Ghana, Legon, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research-Crop Research Institute (CSIR-CRI) were in the mix. The Ghana Rice Farmers Association, traditional rulers, metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs), private entrepreneurs focusing on rice, fertilizer, maize, cassava, and poultry, and executives from the JGC were also there to lend a hand.
Shortly after the signing ceremony, Mrs. Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong, the AAC's CEO, extended a warm welcome to the Thai companies. She praised their interest in joining forces with the JGC for the success of Ghana's Integrated Rice Project and promised they'd need their full support.
The Thai companies, she assured, will reap mutual benefits from their partnership with the group. Mrs. Agyepong encouraged them to visit Ghana, study the country, and get ready to roll up their sleeves for the implementation of the rice project.
Mrs. Florence B. Akonor, Ghana's top lady in Malaysia, sought to alleviate any concerns Thai folk might have about this partnership being a raw deal. She guaranteed it's a win-win situation for both countries, asserting that Ghana is a prime location to invest, with investor protection in full effect.
So there you have it, folks! A powerhouse collaboration between the JGC and some serious Thai rice players, all aimin' to revolutionize rice production in Ghana. Stand by for more deets as this exciting venture unfolds!
