Technical skills competition Jastar Skills 2022 unfolds in Almaty, featuring rare technical professions.
Almaty plays host to the city championship of rare technical trades, Jastar Skills, where the artistry of young turners and welders is showcased. The competition, held at the Almaty Automobile College, aims to dispel the notion that vocational work is easy and to highlight the impressive skills required for these professions.
In the welding competition, participants faced the challenge of skillfully aligning welds on three metal reinforcement bars in various positions. Meanwhile, the second group was tasked with creating an automotive manufacturing part on a lathe. The jury consisted of international experts.
The importance of precision and technique in welding cannot be overstated. A welder must expertly manage the equipment and consistently refine their electrode movement skills to achieve top results.
Daniil Denisenko, a 17-year-old, took first place in the turning competition. Vladislav Klevich, a student at the Almaty Automobile College, showcased the best welding skills in the contest.
Klevich stated, "Welding is useful in everyday life. It comes handy when repairs are needed at home. I was quite nervous before the competition."
All winners received valuable prizes and honorary diplomas.
Temirbek Rakhanov, the director of the Almaty Automobile College, noted, "We are approaching the development of our nation. These practical skills are crucial because it is the welder who ensures the quality of a building, and the turner who determines which parts require machining."
The automobile college boasts over 900 students, training specialists in the middle link of the automotive repair industry.
Events such as Jastar Skills have far-reaching benefits, such as encouraging skill acquisition, fostering industry partnerships, boosting community and national pride, and offering career pathways for those in technical professions. However, these trades have seen a decline in popularity due to a variety of factors, including changing perceptions, technological advancements, labor market issues, and inadequate educational policies. To reverse this trend, a comprehensive approach involving improved educational pathways, strong industry collaboration, and public campaigns to elevate the status of technical professions will be necessary.
