Tax payment deadline for property taxes has been pushed back.
The Portuguese Government has announced an extension of several tax-related deadlines due to technical constraints and temporary issues in accessing the Finance Portal.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the deadline for the first instalment of the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) has been extended from May 31 to June 30, 2025. This change applies to all taxpayers, including those making a single instalment of the IMI if the amount exceeds €100.
Additionally, the deadline for companies to submit their IRC income tax return (Model 22) has been extended to June 16, 2025.
These extensions were necessitated by the challenges encountered in sending a substantial number of IMI collection notices promptly due to the aforementioned obstacles. The Government considered these circumstances in making the decision to grant extended deadlines for tax payments.
In light of the technical constraints and temporary issues faced in accessing the Finance Portal, the deadline for business entities to submit their IRC income tax return (Model 22) has been extended to June 16, 2025, pertaining to the finance sector. Furthermore, the Portuguese Government has also extended the deadline for the first instalment of the Municipal Property Tax (IMI), applicable to both individuals and businesses if the amount exceeds €100, from May 31 to June 30, 2025.
