Superior AI resources for rotoscoping and painting artists unveiled by Boris FX Silhouette.

In an exciting development, Boris FX has released the latest version of its flagship software, Silhouette, with the 2024 release offering a host of features tailored for the film and television industry's top paint and roto artists.

The new Silhouette 2024 is now available for download, featuring a range of enhancements designed to streamline workflows and boost efficiency. One of the standout additions is the Retime ML node, which produces pristine time warps with animated ramping, offering artists unprecedented control over their projects' pacing.

Another significant advancement is the introduction of artist-assisted machine learning (ML) matte creation. The Roto node in Silhouette 2024 allows artists to create input mattes, which are then refined by the Matte Assist ML node, helping to save valuable time on complex sequences.

The Optical Flow ML node, another new feature, generates motion vectors using machine learning, delivering smooth movement with minimal artifacts. It also includes a new Auto KeyFrame tool that uses flow data together with manual animation to speed up roto tasks.

Performance enhancements in Silhouette 2024 include foundational improvements, faster speed when using multiple GPU nodes, smarter cache utilization, and a new Cache node for faster playback. These updates ensure that artists can work smoothly and efficiently, even on the most demanding projects.

Silhouette 2024 is available as a standalone application and/or plugin with various pricing options, including monthly/annual subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and permanent licenses. For media inquiries, contact Jessie Electa Petrov at jessiep@pur socials.com or 617-451-9900.

While specific features of Silhouette 2024 might not be detailed, the advancements in newer versions, such as the latest Silhouette 2025, highlight the evolving capabilities that would benefit top paint and roto artists. These include faster matte creation, improved motion blur capabilities, AI tools for refining masks, generating depth maps, and fixing glitches, and a powerful 3D environment for creating Projected 3D Cards.

Boris Yamnitsky, founder and CEO of Boris FX, states that the needs of artists who use their products are at the forefront of their development. Marco Paolini, Silhouette's product manager and designer, notes that a single frame matte can propagate over the entire scene without manual intervention on simple sequences.

With host application support including Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro, Foundry Nuke, Blackmagic Resolve and Fusion, and Autodesk Flame, Silhouette 2024 offers a comprehensive solution for film and television professionals looking to enhance their paint and roto workflows.

The latest release of Silhouette, version 2024, embraces advancements in data-and-cloud-computing and technology, as indicated by the addition of the Optical Flow ML node and the Matte Assist ML node for artist-assisted machine learning matte creation. These innovations are expected to streamline business workflows and strengthen the industry's paint and roto artists' capabilities. The new features also include the Retime ML node, which furthers artistic control over project pacing, and the Auto KeyFrame tool that expedites roto tasks by using flow data and manual animation together.
