Strategies and dissatisfaction associated with the prospective business district, Klapfenhardt

The picturesque forest area of Klapfenhardt, located northwest of the existing industrial area on the Wilferdinger Heights, has become the centre of a heated debate. The proposed development of an industrial area in this historical and protected location has faced long-standing discussions, with the city and various environmental groups engaging in ongoing dialogue.

Mayor Peter Boch initially announced the plans as a Christmas gift for the city on December 22. However, the Bürgerinitiative Nord, a local civic organisation with a membership of 700, has formed strong resistance against the mayor's plans. They have criticised the decision as "tasteless and incomprehensible."

Klapfenhardt is a water protection and landscape protection area, home to several protected animal species. The low-lying nature of the area poses a problem for wastewater supply from Pforzheim, a concern shared by the Abwasserverband Kämpfelbachtal.

Environmentalists are preparing a campaign against the proposed industrial area, with groups such as NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) and BUND (Friends of the Earth Germany) involved in considering the ecological aspects of the planned site.

In a bid to address the concerns, Mayor Boch has expressed his openness to dialogue with the Bürgerinitiative Nord and nature conservation associations. He has also clarified that species protection and environmental compatibility tests will be commissioned in Klapfenhardt this year.

Interestingly, the area Ochsenwäldle, previously considered for an industrial area, is no longer being pursued. Klapfenhardt is currently in the testing phase, and the city is willing to continue dialogue with the Bürgerinitiative Nord and nature conservation associations.

However, the sharp tone of the Bürgerinitiative Nord's criticism has disappointed Mayor Boch. In response, he has stated that he had a conversation with Manfred Pflüger before the latter's accusations, although Pflüger claims it was a car phone call, and Boch informed him about the plans the day before.

As the discussions continue, it remains to be seen whether a legal path against the proposed industrial area, which has good chances, will be pursued. The city and the environmental groups are working towards a solution that balances economic development with the preservation of this valuable natural resource.
