Stellantis Recalls 1.1 Million Diesels in Europe Over Camshaft Chain Issue

Stellantis has announced a recall of nearly 1.1 million diesel vehicles in Europe due to a potential issue with the camshaft chain. The affected vehicles, produced between 2017 and 2023, include models from Peugeot, Citroën, Opel/Vauxhall, DS, and Fiat equipped with the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine.

The recall, which Stellantis is conducting in cooperation with relevant authorities, may involve a software update and an oil change. A special repairer application will be used to detect the problem. The issue could cause abnormal noise and, in the worst-case scenario, breakage of the camshaft chain. Stellantis has not reported any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

The recall covers vehicles in France (around 930,000) and Belgium (approximately 117,000). Stellantis will cover 100% of parts and labor costs for eligible repairs between 2023 and 2025, up to 10 years or 240,000 kilometers. The 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine was developed by PSA before the merger that formed Stellantis.

Vehicle owners can check if their car is affected by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on Stellantis' official website or that of the relevant national authority. Stellantis encourages owners to follow recommended maintenance and diagnostic guidelines to be eligible for the additional policy.
