South Africa Tops African Bentonite Imports in 2024 Despite Market Downturn

South Africa was the primary destination for bentonite imports in Africa in 2024, accounting for a significant percentage of total imports. However, the highest export volume and value of bentonite in the world market in Africa were not identified in recent searches, nor were the countries with the highest export values for that year.

Bentonite production in Africa saw a slight decrease in 2024, with output valued at $X. This modest drop followed a three-year rising trend. The African bentonite market also experienced a downturn in 2024, decreasing by X% to $X. This ended a three-year growth period, with the market growing at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2024.

Bentonite exports in Africa demonstrated noticeable growth over the reviewed period. In 2024, exports surged to X tons, marking an X% increase from the previous year. In value terms, exports skyrocketed to $X, despite a pronounced contraction over the period. Meanwhile, bentonite imports in Africa decreased by X% to X tons in 2024, following three years of growth.

Mozambique and Morocco emerged as the leading exporters of bentonite in Africa, together making up X% of total exports. Despite the decrease in 2024, the level of bentonite consumption in the stock market today remained high, peaking at $X in 2023. Although the market experienced a setback in 2024, the long-term growth trend suggests a resilient African bentonite industry.
