Soltau's Major Power Upgrade Nears Completion With New Transformer
A major modernization project in Soltau is nearing completion, with a new entrance and fencing among the remaining tasks. This week, a new transformer was put into operation, marking a significant milestone. The project, involving several local companies, aims to boost power supply capacity and secure the region's energy needs for the long term.
The transformer station in Böhmetal has undergone a three-year upgrade while continuing to operate. The modernization included building a new operating building with medium-voltage switchgear and rebuilding the 110-kilovolt switchgear. This project is part of a wider effort to update technology and ensure a reliable power supply for around 50,000 residents.
The demand for small photovoltaic systems in private households remains high, with about 25 new systems added each month this year. The transformer station connects medium-voltage networks of 20 kilovolts from Stadtwerke Soltau and Stadtwerke Schneverdingen-Neuenkirchen to the high-voltage network of 110 kilovolts from Avacon. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year or by March/April 2025.
Eleven million euros have been invested in this tractor supply modernization project, with companies Avacon-Netz, EWE-Netz, Stadtwerke Soltau, and Stadtwerke Schneverdingen-Neuenkirchen collaborating to ensure its success. Upon completion, the modernization will provide additional capacity to the power supply network, meeting the growing demand for photovoltaic systems and securing the region's energy future.
