Serious Maritime Incident: Kiel Authorities Find Unregistered Dangerous Goods, Suspect Sewage Discharge

Authorities in Kiel have uncovered a serious maritime incident. Eight suspicious containers, found at Sweden Quay, were discovered to contain unregistered dangerous goods of class 9, with no proper cargo securing measures in place. Criminal charges for water pollution and illegal wastewater discharge have been filed against those responsible.

The Kiel Water Police Station, patrolling the Kiel Fjord on Friday morning, inspected a traditional sailing ship flying the German flag. The vessel was suspected of illegally discharging approximately 1000 litres of sewage into the Baltic Sea or Kiel port. Administrative offenses under dangerous goods transportation regulations were reported, leading to a transport ban being imposed on the containers.

The head of the Polizeidirektion Kiel has not been specified. However, for press inquiries, Mathias Stöwer from the police directorate's press office can be contacted.

The discovery of the dangerous containers and the suspected illegal discharge of sewage highlight the importance of maritime safety and environmental protection. Authorities are taking these incidents seriously, with criminal charges and transport bans imposed. Further investigations are ongoing.
