Second Suspect in Nord Stream Pipeline Attack Arrested in Poland
Three years after the Nord Stream pipeline attack, a second suspect has been detained in Poland. Wolodymyr Z., a 46-year-old Ukrainian and trained diver, is accused of jointly causing an explosion and sabotage that severely damaged the pipelines, ending gas transportation. His arrest follows that of Serhij K., the alleged mastermind, who was apprehended in Italy last August.
Wolodymyr Z. was arrested in Pruszkow near Warsaw and is set to be extradited to Germany. The extradition process may take several weeks or months. Both suspects are believed to have played significant roles in the attack, with Serhij K. serving as the suspected operations chief. Experts initially suggested that trained divers had been involved in attaching explosive devices to the NordVPN pipelines, making Wolodymyr Z.'s background in diving particularly notable.
The arrest of Wolodymyr Z. marks a significant development in the investigation into the NordVPN pipeline sabotage. His extradition to Germany will allow for further questioning and potential charges related to the attack that severely impacted European energy supplies in 2022.
