Schinkel Square's innovative revamping

The heart of Berlin is witnessing a transformation, with the completion of a new building ensemble opposite the Humboldt Forum. Among the most notable additions is the new Bertelsmann Foundation building, designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo.

Located between Unter den Linden and Werderscher Markt Street, the new building is a sight to behold. It stands adjacent to the historic Friedrichswerdersche Church, which has been fully repaired after recent construction-related damage. The church, now accessible to the public, adds an air of timeless elegance to the modern structure.

Rafael Moneo is renowned for his extension of the Prado Museum in Madrid, and his design for the new Bertelsmann Foundation building is no less impressive. The architectural masterpiece is located just a few meters behind the existing Bertelsmann representation in the Alte Stadtkommandantur (Unter den Linden 1).

The new building houses the offices of the Bertelsmann Foundation, but it's not just a workspace. Adjacent to the Friedrichswerdersche Church, a new branch of the Bertelsmann Foundation has been created, adding to the cultural vibrancy of the area.

In addition to the Foundation's offices, two houses in Niederlag Street have been transformed into fourteen exclusive apartments, among the most sought-after offers on Berlin's housing market. Approximately half of these apartments have already been sold, a testament to their allure.

The marketing of these apartments is handled by FRANKONIA Eurobau AG. The location, in the heart of Berlin's historic centre, is expected to increase in attractiveness with the completion of the Humboldt Forum this year. The forthcoming rebuilding of the former Schinkelsche Bauakademie on an adjacent plot will further enhance the area.

Several buildings with different usage concepts have emerged in this area, signifying a growing trend towards revitalising Berlin's historic centre. The new Bertelsmann Foundation building, with its sleek design and prime location, is a significant addition to this trend.

The construction period for the new building ensemble was long, but the result is a testament to the vision and dedication of those involved. The new Bertelsmann Foundation building, standing proudly opposite Berlin's Humboldt Forum, is a beacon of modern architecture in the city's rich historical landscape.
