S&P Global Unveils 2025 Tier 1 Cleantech Companies List
S&P Global Commodity Insights has published its first-ever 2025 Tier 1 Cleantech Companies list, offering a transparent benchmark for reliability and long-term performance in the clean energy supply chain. The list covers 63 renewable energy suppliers across solar modules, inverters, wind turbines, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The European market boasts several prominent companies in the 2025 roster. For PV modules, Hanwha Solutions (Qcells) and Astronergy (with a significant European presence) are recognized. In the PV inverter category, SMA from Germany makes the list. For wind turbines, Vestas (Denmark), Siemens Gamesa (Spain/Germany), and Nordex (Germany) are included. In the BESS category, Wärtsilä from Finland is recognized. Additionally, globally recognized companies like Canadian Solar and Envision Energy operate in or serve the European market.
The Tier 1 designation is awarded to companies exceeding a defined threshold across at least four of six dimensions, including market presence, financial performance, and sustainability assessment. Notably, Chinese firms dominate all categories, with 14 module suppliers, 11 inverter manufacturers, and 9 wind turbine companies recognized. However, the BESS category shows greater geographic diversity, with companies from various regions listed. Several firms, such as Trina Solar and Canadian Solar, appear in more than one category, reflecting their vertically integrated positions.
The 2025 Tier 1 Cleantech Companies list, covering 63 renewable energy suppliers, aims to reduce information asymmetry and highlight companies able to withstand cyclical downturns. Intended to provide developers, lenders, and investors with a consistent, transparent reference point, the list is a valuable tool for selecting partners in the clean energy sector.
