Russia's Alcohol Production Mixed in 2025: Liquor Up, Strong Drinks Down
Alcohol production in Russia during January-September 2025 saw mixed trends. While overall production excluding beer and similar beverages decreased by 9.1% to 120.782 million dal, certain segments showed growth.
Wine production, including spirits with an alcohol content above 9%, increased by 9.4% to 13.403 million dal. This rise was driven by a 11.6% increase in wine production to 26.783 million dal, and a 9.6% increase in sparkling wine production to 12.222 million dal.
However, production of strong alcoholic beverages fell by 4.2% to 78.437 million dal. Fruit alcohol products also saw a significant decrease of 78.4% to 1.162 million dal. Low-alcohol products experienced a substantial drop of 87.8% to 1.131 million dal. Russian cognac production decreased by 17% to 5.706 million dal, and vodka production fell by 6% to 52.413 million dal.
Despite the overall decrease in alcohol production, the increase in wine production indicates a shift in consumer preferences. The decline in strong alcoholic beverages and low-alcohol products suggests a potential change in drinking habits among Russians.
