Russian President Vladimir Putin expresses no concerns over marketing "attractive" automobiles.
In a suggestive move that could revolutionise Russia's automotive landscape, Alexei Nechayev, the leader of the "New People" faction, has proposed the introduction of a "pretty" car license plate system in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This idea was first brought up during a meeting with parliamentary factions on September 19.
The concept of selling aesthetically pleasing license plates is not new, as President Vladimir Putin has reportedly shown openness to the idea. However, it's important to note that no specific authorities have yet approved this project, and there are no documented laws to support its implementation in Russia.
The success of a similar system in Uzbekistan, which generates approximately 2.5 billion rubles in revenue with a car population of 4 million, has set a precedent. If implemented in Russia, with its over 50 million cars, the potential revenue could reach a staggering 25 billion rubles. However, the car population of the Nizhny Novgorod region, which could affect the potential revenue generation, was not provided.
The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has already developed the necessary legal framework for this initiative. If approved, the revenue from these license plates would reportedly go to the Russian budget.
Alexei Nechayev has pointed out that the current system, if replaced with a legal one, could potentially reduce illegal trading of license plates. He also mentioned that illegal trading of such license plates is already happening and a legal system would make the process transparent.
It's worth noting that Nechayev has not explicitly stated his intentions to extend the license plate initiative to the Nizhny Novgorod region, and the decision to implement this system has not been announced yet. The potential market for these "pretty" license plates would be those who want such plates and are willing to pay for them.
The implementation of the license plate system in the Nizhny Novgorod region could potentially reduce illegal trading of license plates and generate revenue for the Russian budget. However, it remains to be seen whether this proposal will come to fruition.
