Romania's Petromidia refinery to achieve six-year export peak

Revamped Read:

Let's dive into the latest news about Romania's mega-refinery, Petromidia! This badass refinery, a jewel in Rompetrol Rafinare's crown—owned by KMGI group—is ramping up its fuel game, aiming to ship out a whopping 1.76 million tonnes of gasoline and diesel this year (2021). That's the highest export volume in six years, y'all!

The domestic market may be the priority, but 2025 has the refinery looking like a global petroleum powerhouse, with a predicted record high export figure. According to a presentation, as reported by Economica.net, that's the deal.

In terms of category breakdown, diesel will dominate the domestic scene with twice as much diesel on tap compared to petrol. However, the export scene is balanced, with a slight lean towards petrol exports. Petrol exports will stand at around 841,000 tonnes, leaving the domestic market in the dust with only 628,000 tonnes.

Contrasting the petrol scenario, diesel is the refinery's bread and butter, with almost 1.5 million tonnes slated for domestic consumption. About 800,000 tonnes of diesel will be distributed abroad.

Petromidia will process a mighty 5.3 million tonnes of raw materials, with 4.96 million tonnes being crude oil. The other refinery in the group, Vega, will process 403,000 tonnes of raw materials for bitumen, hexane, solvents, and a slew of other products.

But that's not all! To keep up with the power (and energy) needs, Petromidia is constructing a badass cogeneration plant, which is now in the operational testing phase. Plus, there's a pet coke briquetting plant with a mind-boggling 0.25 million tons per year capacity.

That's Petromidia, baby! A refinery smashing records and pushing boundaries, one fuel tanker at a time.
