Romania's state-owned railway company, CFR (Căile Ferate Române), has announced plans to install sound-absorbing panels on several key railway routes around Bucharest, with the aim of improving the quality of life for residents in areas adjacent to railway lines.

The installation of these panels is estimated to take approximately 5 months and will take place on three locations: the Constanta Bridge, the Bucharest Nord-Constanta railway line, and the Chitila area, crossed by the Bucharest-Predeal railway line.

On the Bucharest Nord-Constanta railway line, panels will be installed over a distance of 300 meters, between kilometer 4+300 and kilometer 4+600. In the Chitila area, panels will be installed on Line 300 Bucharest Nord-Predeal, between kilometer 10+550 and kilometer 11+050, over a distance of approximately 500 meters. The heights of the sound-absorbing panels will range between two and four meters.

The main purpose of this investment, which is funded by nearly RON 11 million (EUR 2.1 million) from the state budget, is to reduce the noise level generated by train traffic in residential areas. The reduction of noise is estimated to be approximately 10 dB(A) at the receiver level.

The installation of specially designed sound-absorbing panels aims to reduce the acoustic impact, contributing to a more peaceful living environment for neighboring localities. The execution works will begin after the completion of administrative steps and the issuance of the start order.

While specific details about the materials of the sound-absorbing panels were not provided, the project is part of a broader effort by CFR to address noise pollution and improve the environmental and community health along busy railway corridors.

For precise and updated timelines or detailed technical data, official announcements from Romanian railway authorities or relevant transportation ministries would be the authoritative sources. The completion deadline for the installation is set for the beginning of next year.

A photograph related to the project can be found on CFR Calatori's Facebook page. The announcement was made on Thursday, August 7.

  1. This investment in sound-absorbing panels on Bucharest's railway lines, part of a broader effort by CFR to address noise pollution, also falls under the category of environmental science, as it aims to improve the living conditions of neighboring communities.
  2. With the planned installation of these panels on Line 300 Bucharest Nord-Predeal in the Chitila area and the Bucharest Nord-Constanta railway line, the Romanian state-owned railway company, CFR, is demonstrating its commitment to not only the industry's advancement but also to the finance sector, by investing nearly RON 11 million (EUR 2.1 million) from the state budget.
