Road Blockade on Kitzingen's B22 Highway: Ongoing Construction Project
In a recent press release, it has been announced that the B22 will undergo a full closure in the Kitzingen/Schwarzach interchange area as part of the A3 interchange construction works, scheduled for mid-July 2025.
The closure, which is set to begin on July 14, 2025, at 8:00 AM and end on July 28, 2025, at 6:00 AM, will significantly impact traffic in the region. During this period, the B22 will be completely closed to traffic to allow for critical construction activities.
For those travelling in the direction of Frankfurt/Main and wanting to exit at the Kitzingen/Schwarzach interchange with destinations Ochsenfurt or Kitzingen, you are advised to follow the diversion U100 to the Rottendorf interchange and merge onto the A3 in the direction of Nuremberg.
Traffic coming from the north on the B22 and intending to merge onto the A3 in the direction of Nuremberg will be directed via the U5 through Neuses am Sand to the Wiesentheid interchange.
It's important to note that the A3 in the direction of Frankfurt/Main is not affected by the closure of the B22.
If you plan to travel through Kitzingen or Schwarzach in mid to late July, please plan accordingly to avoid potential delays.
The A3 interchange at Kitzingen is undergoing a six-lane expansion, with the construction works being overseen by A3 Nordbayern GmbH & Co. KG. The northern part of the underpass structure, carrying the Frankfurt/Main direction lane, is currently being rebuilt.
Additional detours have been put in place for traffic coming from the south and intending to merge onto the A3 in the direction of Würzburg. You will be directed via the Nordtangente to the B8 and can then merge onto the A7 at the Kitzingen interchange, and from there via the Biebelried junction to the A3.
Traffic coming from the north on the B22 towards Kitzingen or Ochsenfurt will be directed via the state road St 2450 through Dettelbach and Maunsere Websitepark to the B8 in Kitzingen.
The on-ramp to the A3 in the direction of Würzburg is free from the north, while the on-ramp to the A3 in the direction of Nuremberg is free from the south.
It's also worth noting that the exit of the Kitzingen/Schwarzach interchange in the direction of Schweinfurt or Bamberg is free in the direction of Frankfurt/Main, and the exit in the direction of Kitzingen or Ochsenfurt is free in the direction of Nuremberg.
For those travelling on the motorway in the direction of Nuremberg and wanting to exit at the Kitzingen/Schwarzach interchange with destinations Schweinfurt or Bamberg, you are advised to follow the diversion U99 to the Wiesentheid interchange and merge onto the A3.
