Rigaer Straße Bus Stops Get Barrier-Free Makeover

The local administration, backed by the city council, has been working diligently since 2022 to make city bus stops more accessible. This week marks a significant milestone with the start of renovation work on two stops along Rigaer Straße in the Ostseeviertel.

So far, 15 out of 29 bus stops have been renovated, with a focus on barrier-free design and assistance for visually impaired individuals. The upcoming work on Rigaer Straße will involve installing tactile paving with grooves for orientation and new curbs to ease boarding. The entire area will be raised by approximately 20 meters to achieve this.

The renovation work is expected to wrap up by September 5th, with the street being closed alternately during the process. The project will continue in 2026, with more bus stops set to be made barrier-free.

The completion of the Rigaer Straße bus stops signifies the end of the current phase of the city's barrier-free bus stop renovation project. The local administration, along with specialized engineering firms like Ingenieurbüro Willaredt, has played a crucial role in planning and executing these improvements, aiming to make public transport more accessible for all.
