Revealed: Participants for Year 5 in Power Up Announcement
The Power Up initiative, a multi-award-winning long-term initiative co-founded by PRS Foundation and Ben Wynter, has announced the participants for its Year 5 programme. This year, 41 Black music creators and industry professionals will join the programme, aimed at elevating pioneering Black talent and addressing racial disparities in the music sector.
The new participants include a diverse range of music creators such as AKS, BLACK JOSH, Blue Lab Beats, ButhoTheWarrior, Charisse C, Chiedu Oraka, DJ Q, Eerf Evil, Eva Lazarus, Eyve, Jay Weathers, JNR Williams, Kenzie TTH, Leo Miyagee, Lily Beau, Not3s, and Peter Xan.
Industry professionals participating in Power Up this year include Jeremiah Gogo, Charlotte-Anne Myler, Mr Darcy, Sheila Maurice-Grey, Miss C Brown, Roxanne Tataei, Makeda Krish, Natasha Hendry, TEE, Danny West, Sans Soucis, Jurango, Lunick Bourgess, Deborah Yewande Bankole, TK, Alain 'Fusion' Clapham, Alicia Esambe, Kay George, Anu Omideyi, SIOBHAN BROWN, Osama Izevbigie, and Kinaya Said Ibrahim.
Power Up's programme offers a range of support to its participants, including grant support of up to £10,000, masterclasses, mentoring, coaching, mental health and wellbeing support, access to valuable support from Power Up Partners, and a peer network. The initiative's partners for this year include Amazon Music, Warner Music UK, the Blavatnik Family Foundation, and Universal Music Group.
Yaw Owusu, senior Power Up manager, expressed excitement for the journey that this year's participants will embark on and the positive impact they will have on the industry. Ben Wynter, co-founder of Power Up, commented on the new participants, highlighting the impact of the programme across the UK and beyond.
Since its launch in early 2021, over 1,697 Black music creators and industry professionals have applied for a place on the programme. The Power Up Participant Programme is a key feature of the initiative, which aims to create a more diverse and inclusive music industry.
