Retail giant Dollar Tree appoints a new head of merchandising
Dollar Tree Announces Leadership Changes and Strong Q2 Results
Dollar Tree, the popular discount retailer, has announced a series of changes in its leadership team, with Brent Beebe being promoted to the role of Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) and Rick McNeely set to retire next year.
Effective April 2026, Brent Beebe will take over as CMO, a role he has been preparing for under McNeely's guidance over the past five years. Beebe, who currently serves as Senior Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing at Dollar Tree, has more than 20 years of merchandising leadership experience, with a resume that includes leadership roles at Joann and the Fred Meyer brand under The Kroger Company.
Beebe has made a significant impact at Dollar Tree, leading key initiatives that delivered strong results. His promotion comes after Dollar Tree's recent strong results, as seen in their second quarter earnings release. In Q2, the company's net sales increased by 12.3% year over year to $4.6 billion. Same-store net sales jumped 6.5%, with increases in both average ticket and traffic.
The strong performance has also improved Dollar Tree's gross margin by 20 basis points in Q2. As a result, the company has raised its full-year guidance following its strong Q2 performance.
Martin Schumacher, the current Chief Commercial Officer at The Container Store, has taken over responsibilities as the interim Chief Merchant, filling the vacancy left by Brooke Wagner, who departed the role in July.
Rick McNeely, the current CMO at Dollar Tree, will retire in the spring of next year. McNeely has worked at Dollar Tree since 2008, and has partnered with Beebe for a smooth transition over the next eight months.
The leadership changes at Dollar Tree come amidst similar announcements from other retail giants. REI and Ulta have announced new appointees to their chief merchandising roles this year.
In addition to the leadership changes, Dollar Tree has also completed the sale of the Family Dollar banner to private equity firms for approximately $1 billion.
Beebe led Dollar Tree itself before his promotion to CMO, serving as SVP of Retail Merchandising and Marketing at Dollar Tree. There is no information indicating he led another company prior to this role.
This latest C-suite announcement involves a longtime company veteran departing, but with Beebe's promotion, Dollar Tree seems poised for continued success.
