Charité Facility Management (CFM) and Verdi Reach a Wage Agreement: Here's What You Need to Know
Wage disagreement resolved at Charité affiliate CFM in arranged settlement - Resolved Collective Bargaining Dispute at Charité-subsidiary CFM: Agreement Reached Regarding Workers' Terms and Conditions
Hey there!
The tension between Charité Facility Management (CFM) and the United Services Trade Union, known as Verdi, has come to an end. The union members will soon vote on whether to approve this deal within the next few days, with the latest date set for July 4.
The agreement's main focus is on wage adjustments for CFM employees, slowly bringing them up to the pay scale of the public sector tariff agreement used at Charité. CFM staff will feel the first change from June 1, 2025, with the full adjustment to be complete by January 1, 2030. Additionally, Verdi members will enjoy an extra day of vacation every half-year until 2029.
Employing around 3,500 people across various sectors like medical technology, patient transport, outdoor maintenance, cleaning, and security, CFM workers staged a 48-day strike to demand improved wages.
Mehmet Yilmaz, a member of Verdi's wage committee, considers the result a "giant step" towards achieving equal treatment for CFM employees compared to their Charité counterparts. Despite this progress, other working conditions for Charité employees remain unaffected, a compromise that Verdi describes as bittersweet.
CFM's managing director, Juliane Kaufmann, shares: "We're pleased to have reached a resolution after intense negotiation sessions. This is excellent news for CFM employees. We managed to strike a fair compromise that significantly improves the wages of employees in the lower wage brackets while maintaining competitive pay for skilled workers."
Berlin's Mayor, Kai Wegner, echoes her feelings: "I'm thrilled that a resolution has finally been reached in Berlin after years of discussions - and that hard work is now being fairly rewarded."
Keep an eye out for the outcome of the union vote. Here's hoping for a positive turn for the CFM staff!

It's worth noting that the workers have been persistently striking since February 2025, seeking noticeable wage increase offers surpassing the 18% rise proposed by CFM over a three-year period. Furthermore, these employees have voiced their desire to work towards aligning CFM's offers with the TVöD (Collective Agreement for the Public Service), as it applies to other Charité employees.
The strike actions have spanned roles such as cleaning, patient transport, safety, security, technological support, and maintenance. If the agreement is approved, it will represent significant progress towards better compensation and working conditions for these workers.
- In the ongoing wage dispute between Charité Facility Management (CFM) and the United Services Trade Union (Verdi), the proposed agreement focuses on vocational training and wage adjustments, aiming to bring CFM employees closer to the pay scale of the public sector tariff agreement used at Charité.
- As part of the agreement, the finance sector and industry will play a critical role in the gradual wage adjustments, with the first change taking effect from June 1, 2025, and the full adjustment to be complete by January 1, 2030, providing a significant improvement for CFM employees in lower wage brackets.
- The general news and politics have been closely monitoring the ongoing tariff dispute in Berlin, as the outcome of the union vote could have far-reaching implications for the banking-and-insurance sector, as well as other vocational training and employment industries.
