Region raises public transportation ticket prices for bus and rail services once more
In August 2025, a fare increase will be implemented across most city and regional transport tickets in the Verkehrsverbund Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien (ZVON), affecting passengers in the Görlitz district and the eastern part of the Bautzen district in eastern Saxony.
The average price hike is approximately 7%. However, there are exceptions and minimally affected tickets:
- Educational tickets and school group tickets will not increase in price.
- Day tickets and the cross-border "Euro-Neisse-Ticket" will see only slight increases.
- Short-distance tickets on regional transport will remain at their current price.
A notable change in the SeniorTicket regulation will also take place. Seniors will now be able to take a dog along free of charge instead of a child, as was previously the rule.
The old tickets will remain valid for another three months after the change. It's worth noting that the ZVON is currently in the process of merging with the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO), which may lead to a uniform fare for all of eastern Saxony in the future.
This fare increase comes as a significant setback for loyal customers, particularly at a time when affordable public transport is being discussed. The ZVON has cited increased costs for personnel, energy, and materials as the reason for the increase.
