Insights: Coimbra's main transportation provider is currently the SMTUC (Serviços Municipalizados de Transportes Urbanos de Coimbra), which caters to urban transport within the city and its immediate surroundings. The SMTUC system offers a wide coverage with over 1,529 stops, 657 km of route network and 166 vehicles. Currently, no formal intermunicipal road transport system, known as SIT (Sistema Intermunicipal de Transportes), is officially established for Coimbra and its surrounding municipalities. However, the city is engaged in various mobility initiatives such as the Seamless Shared Urban Mobility (SUM) project, which aims to improve urban and interurban mobility with technology, multimodal integration, and shared mobility solutions.
