Railway shuts down essential route in Bavaria, imposing travel limitations on commuters
Railway Line Between Nuremberg and Ansbach In Bavaria To Undergo Week-Long Closure for Infrastructure Improvements
Beginning on Monday, May 26, 2025, the railway line between Nuremberg and Ansbach in Bavaria will be temporarily closed for a week due to infrastructure improvements, according to the German Railway. The closure will also impact the branch line between Wicklesgreuth and Windsbach.
During this period, continuous work will be carried out to install a new railway bridge in Heilsbronn in the district of Ansbach. The route will be completely shut down from May 26 at 4 am to June 2 at 4 am to facilitate the bridge insertion. As a result, replacement traffic with buses will be arranged for both routes.
The new steel-reinforced concrete bridge, approximately 21 meters long, 13 meters wide, and 6 meters high, has already been built on the route and will be incorporated into the railway network from the mentioned date. Besides the bridge installation, the railway will also utilize this closure for renovations and rail replacement. The total costs for the project are estimated to be approximately 7.3 million euros, shared among the railway, the federal government, and the Free State.
Following the completion of the railway traffic work for the new bridge, construction work for the bridge connection to the existing road network will commence, with an anticipated completion date of October 2026. Subsequently, the existing railway crossing at the site will be dismantled.
Travelers are advised to plan ahead and monitor updates for any alternate transportation arrangements that may be necessary during the closure. This information is crucial for commuters and those planning travel in the region next week.
