Qualcomm Wins Legal Battle Against Arm Over Nuvia Technology Use
Qualcomm has secured a decisive win in a long-running legal battle with Arm. The US District Court in Delaware has dismissed Arm's final claim, upholding a jury verdict from December 2024 that favored Qualcomm.
The case centered around Arm's accusation that Qualcomm's subsidiary, Nuvia, infringed on its architecture license. However, the jury concluded that Qualcomm was legally entitled to use the technology acquired from Nuvia within its own architecture. The court also rejected Arm's request for a new trial, bringing the case to a close.
The dispute, which symbolized a broader power struggle between the two tech giants, involved differing views on licensing rates and technology usage. Arm argued that Qualcomm was obliged to respect Nuvia's higher royalty rates, while Qualcomm saw it as a dispute about Arm's changing role in the industry. Despite this victory, a separate lawsuit between the two companies is still ongoing, scheduled for March 2026.
Qualcomm's victory in this case is definitive, with all claims against it dismissed. The court's decision confirms that Qualcomm's use of Nuvia technology was properly licensed and did not violate any license terms. While the dispute is settled, both companies continue to engage in legal battles, with another lawsuit pending in March 2026.
