Qarmet's Blast Furnace No. 3 Successfully Switches to Natural Gas
Qarmet has successfully switched blast furnace No. 3 to natural gas, marking a significant step in its modernization program. The transition, completed on September 30, brings numerous benefits, including reduced environmental impact and increased productivity.
Akan Yespotaev, head of blast furnace No. 3, expressed his enthusiasm about the switch. The change was made possible by Linde Gas, which supplied natural gas to the furnace for the first time that day. The new fuel source reduces coke consumption, optimizing metallurgical production. Moreover, natural gas is cleaner than fuel oil, significantly reducing the environmental impact of the furnace.
The supply system for natural gas has been set up and is being closely monitored by specialists. Electrified valves now allow for precise regulation of gas supply to each tuyeres in the blast furnace. This precision, coupled with the greater energy efficiency of natural gas compared to fuel oil, increases the productivity of the blast furnace process.
The successful transition to natural gas at blast furnace No. 3 is expected to improve both the efficiency and environmental performance of Qarmet's operations. The company continues to monitor the new system to ensure its smooth operation and maximum benefits.
