From June 30 to December 13, 2025, the Bad Schandau - Schöna railway line will undergo significant construction work, leading to the suspension of train services and the introduction of a replacement bus service. This change affects various modes of transport, including long-distance trains, S-Bahn, the National Park Railway U28, and the RE.

During this period, passengers heading to Schöna must transfer to the replacement bus. The bus travel times may differ from the usual train timetable, so travellers are advised to check updated schedules shortly before travel and be aware that connections might be affected.

The digital travel information and DB Navigator app will reflect these changes for trip planning or updates. Prior to the closure, some trains run until Schöna, but from June 30, the bus replacement is in effect. Some limited train service adjustments apply until around June 29, with specific trains running only as far as Pirna or Dresden Hauptbahnhof on certain dates.

Passengers should note that to reach the replacement bus, they must cross the Elbe using a ferry from Bad Schandau station. The cost of crossing the Elbe using the ferry is included in VVO and Germany tickets, so no extra charge is required.

The National Park Railway U28 towards Sebnitz and Rumburk is running according to schedule and is not affected by the railway line closure. The S1 passengers must use the replacement bus to reach Schöna, and the replacement bus for S1 passengers can be accessed using line 252 buses.

For those using the Eurocity service, it will only run between Prague and Ústí nad Labem hl.n and then again from Dresden to Berlin or Hamburg and Kiel. Passengers should transfer to the EC bus during this time, and the travel time for the connection Ústí - Dresden using the EC bus is about one hour.

After the full closure, RE and long-distance trains can run again, but the S1 will only run to Bad Schandau until December. Construction works on the Bad Schandau - Schöna railway line will begin on June 29 and continue until December.

In light of the construction work on the Bad Schandau - Schöna railway line from June 30 to December 13, 2025, the industry of public-transit transportation will be affected, with replacement bus services being introduced for S1 passengers and the National Park Railway U28 remaining unaffected. Passengers are advised to check updated schedules and be aware of possible connectivity issues as they navigate alternative modes of transportation such as finance-related digital travel information apps.
