Private Tutor Eligibility and Regulations in UAE: Qualifications for Applicants and Guidelines to Follow
In an exciting development for education in the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) have introduced a new private tutor permit. This permit, available to a wide range of applicants, allows individuals to offer private tutoring independently, without being employed by official educational institutions.
The permit, effective from 2023, is designed to regulate private tutoring and ensure a high standard of education. It applies to school students, unemployed individuals, employees in other sectors, teachers in public or private schools, and even university students.
To apply, visit the MOHRE website, select "Services", type "Private Tutor Licensing", and follow the steps provided. The application processing time is 1 to 5 working days, and the permit is valid for two years, renewable.
For school students, proof of student status (latest certificate) is required. Unemployed individuals must submit their latest issued certificate. Teachers in public or private schools require a no-objection letter from their employer and an experience certificate (if available). All applicants, regardless of their category, must upload a clear coloured photo with a white background.
The required documents also include a certificate of good conduct, a medical fitness certificate, and valid identity documents such as a passport, residency, or Emirates ID. Employees in other sectors need a no-objection letter from their employer.
The Code of Conduct, which all applicants must sign, emphasises the importance of maintaining confidentiality of information relating to students and parents. Tutors must never resort to physical or verbal violence, and inappropriate activities are strictly prohibited. Teachers are also prohibited from providing services directly to students affiliated with their own schools.
Applicants are required to disclose any conflicts of interest during the permit process. Obtaining the required documents such as a certificate of good conduct and a medical fitness test involves government service fees.
For support, contact MOHRE via their support portal at support.mohre.gov.ae or by calling 600 590000. Public and private school teachers are required to obtain permission and a no-objection certificate (NOC) from their administration before conducting any tutoring activities.
The private tutor permit allows tutoring either online or in person, to individuals or groups. Tutors can offer their services to students from any educational institution, making this an exciting opportunity for both tutors and students.
In a nutshell, the new private tutor permit in the UAE offers a regulated platform for private tutoring, ensuring a high standard of education while providing opportunities for individuals to share their knowledge and skills.
