Metro construction in Yekaterinburg is nearing the excavation of new tunnels, extending from Ploshchad Revolyutsii to the railway station, and further to ul. Kopylova. Tunnel boring machines are expected to commence operation within the next few months. At present, excavation pits are being dug on both future stations, and one of them awaits the assembly of TPMK.

Krasnoyarsk Metro Commences Tunnel Construction for New Stations

Preparation underway in central Krasnoyarsk for the metro pit to accept "Anastasia"

Construction of new tunnels for the Krasnoyarsk Metro is progressing, with work planned on sections from Ploshchad Revolutsii to the railway station, and from there to Ulitsa Kopylova. Metropolitan workers have been preparing the foundation for the "Vokzalnaya" station opposite the railway station since February, with work lasting approximately half a year. Specialists are currently constructing a reinforced concrete plate in the foundation of the Kotlovan, which will serve as the foundation for the tunnel-boring machine (TBM) assembly.

The Kotlovan's dimensions are impressive, with a length of 140 meters, a width of 30 meters, and a depth of 12 meters. From here, the tunnel to Ulitsa Kopylova will be dug by "Valentina," which will pass under the railway at a depth of 12 meters.

Tunneling is expected to commence in September, and while the TBM for "Valentina" is currently being stored at the production base of subcontractor "Bamtunnelstroi-Most," preparation work for the Kotlovan on Ulitsa Kopylova is already underway, with the deepest demolition Kotlovan of the Krasnoyarsk Metrotramway being constructed 60 meters below the surface. Additionally, construction of a ventilation shaft tunnel is planned in preparation for the tunneling of "Anastasiya" in Nikolaevka.

"The installation of a supportive system of metal those copes with the pressure from the earth is ongoing on the station 'Vokzalnaya' as the soil is removed. First, the soil is removed to the bottom, followed by the reverse filling with sand and compaction. The excavation chamber is also being prepared for the arrival of two shields from the Ploshchad Revolutsii station - explained the foreman, Arthur Chernovol.

The "Vokzalnaya" station will have two vestibules: one underground and one emergency, both with access to the platform via staircases. Passengers will exit to the surface via underground pedestrian crossings.

The station will be connected to the railway station via an underground passage, and from the vestibule, there will also be an additional lift exit to the Privokzalnaya Square (in the direction of the Vyborgsky Lane). It will also be possible to leave through the emergency exit to the intersection of Ulitsa Depovskaya, Ulitsa Abarakhlovykh, and Ulitsa Bograd.

Meanwhile, preparations for the TBM "Anastasiya" are almost complete at the Ploshchad Revolutsii station. The complex is already on site, although it is still in disassembled form and lacks the main component - the stationary shield.

The details of "Anastasiya" have been arranged in a pair of tens of meters from the Kotlovan and are ready to be lowered into it for further assembly.

It is expected to start tunneling before its counterpart and will likely reach its destination in January-February 2026.

When the platform area where the TBM is stored becomes free, parts of "Iryna" will be moved to the Ploshchad.

"The foundation for the assembly of the TBM has been concreted, and we will soon begin assembly. The shields will begin their journey towards the station "Vokzalnaya" with a one-month delay - informed the chief engineer of the project "Bamtunnelstroi-Most" Andrei Osinov.

At this station, there will be two exits through the vestibule via an underground passage, and then via staircases in the direction of the Central Library and the Central Park. Both exits are planned to have lift pavilions.

The chief engineer also explained the status of "Yekaterina" and "Solomeya," which are tunneling from Ulitsa Shaktěrov to the station on Karla Marksa:

the first has passed through the right transition tunnel 1460 meters, and the second through the left - 1100 meters.

When the shields reach the city administration, they will be transported to Ploshchad Revolutsii, where they will complete the tunneling of a section 1.14 km long from Ploshchad to the future station "Ulitsa Karla Marksa."

Krasnoyarchen will be warned, as when work on the TBMs begins in the center, traffic on the roads will be heavy: construction materials will be delivered to the construction site, and soil will be removed from the tunneling.

  1. In light of the ongoing construction, updates in the newsabout the progress of the TBM "Valentina" and other machines in the Krasnoyarsk Metro industry are eagerly anticipated by finance and transportation stakeholders, given the potential impact on future passenger flow and infrastructure development.
  2. While the foundation work for the "Vokzalnaya" station in the Krasnoyarsk Metro is underway, specialists are simultaneously planning the construction of a ventilation shaft tunnel for the TBM "Anastasiya" in Nikolaevka, signaling coordinated efforts across various industries to ensure efficient completion of the metro project.
