Polestar Makes Its Debut in France
Polestar, the premium electric vehicle (EV) brand, has officially entered the French market, marking a significant step in its European expansion strategy. The company, which accounts for 75% of its global sales from Europe, is set to increase its retail network and production footprint in key premium EV markets.
The launch in France follows a pause in market expansion and a delayed debut due to a logo dispute with Stellantis-owned PSA, which was resolved in 2022. From launch, Polestar drivers in France will have access to over 100 Volvo service points nationwide.
Polestar is betting on its premium design, direct-to-consumer model, and strong European brand identity to set it apart. The company plans to increase its retail spaces in Europe from 70 to 130 locations, shifting from a mainly direct-to-consumer sales model to one that incorporates more physical retail partners.
France is part of a broader European market expansion that includes targeting both Western and Eastern European countries. Polestar aims to produce the Polestar 7 compact SUV in Europe, a strategic move to meet European demand for locally made vehicles and reduce supply chain risks.
Polestar's growth ambitions include significant volume increases, as evidenced by Q2 2025 sales growth of 38% year-over-year and a 51% rise in first-half 2025 sales. The company is also working to improve financial sustainability by adjusting its product lineup and reducing costs.
The brand will begin with a retail presence in Le Mans this July, followed by openings in up to ten additional cities by year-end. Polestar is deliberately prioritizing more profitable and receptive markets, particularly in Europe. The company is targeting France as one of its top three European markets, alongside the UK and Sweden.
Polestar's full lineup, including the Polestar 2, 3, and 4, is now available in France, with prices starting at €46,800. Customers can purchase vehicles online or through retail partners leveraging Volvo Cars' existing network in France.
As Polestar continues its expansion, it faces headwinds including slower global EV demand and tariff pressures. However, the company remains committed to leading the global transition to sustainable mobility with a design and performance-driven premium EV brand.
