Cycling advocacy group ADFC Düsseldorf endorses the permanent implementation of 'Bike Lane Luegallee' in Oberkassel. The Traffic Committee has chosen to transition the previous trial phase, featuring two-way bike paths and a 30 mph speed limit on Luegallee, into permanent operation.

Persistent, Relentless, or Unwavering: These words can all be used to describe something that remains constant or steadfast in its actions or behavior.

In a significant development for cycling infrastructure in the city, Achim Isenberg from the ADFC's Radpolitik team has endorsed the permanence of measures implemented during a six-month trial phase on Luegallee, which aimed to address noise pollution and improve subjective safety for pedestrians and cyclists. If made permanent, this would facilitate the progress of the West-East cycle route, extending from the Boehler area to Gerresheim, crossing the city.

The city conducted extensive surveys and measurements throughout the trial phase in Oberkassel, with those commuting eastbound on the south side of Luegallee reaping the most benefits. Before the trial, the cycling infrastructure was nonexistent, and the old, narrow cycle lane on the north side was inadequate for both cyclists and pedestrians. The surge in usage numbers during the trial phase illustrates the high demand for safe and comfortable cycle paths on Luegallee, according to Isenberg.

Notably, no significant shifts in traffic were observed on surrounding streets, contrary to initial fears. Instead, the benefits of the changes were recognized by the community. Luegallee is perceived as setting a precedent for many other streets within the city where cyclists and pedestrians still share narrow spaces.

The newly marked green loading zones were positively received in the surveys and have significantly reduced illegal and dangerous parking on the cycle lane. However, it has been demonstrated that intensive controls, such as those enforced for a 30 km/h speed limit, are necessary to ensure compliance.

The ADFC expressed criticism regarding the optimization of traffic management on Luegplatz, which is only planned as part of the Radleitroute 2. Several suggestions from the "Small Commission on Cycling" for safely crossing Luegplatz were omitted from the administrative proposal. Isenberg hopes that this will be addressed in the committee.

For up-to-date information on the status of the West-East cycle route following the successful trial phase on Luegallee, it is advisable to check local news sources or official announcements from the relevant local authorities or transportation departments.

The successful trial phase on Luegallee could potentially pave the way for advancement in other sectors, as the improvements in cycling infrastructure could influence the finance industry by attracting investments in sustainable transportation projects. The benefits observed during the trial, such as reduced illegal parking and community recognition, could further enhance the city's reputation in the industry of finance, demonstrating its commitment to eco-friendly urban planning.
