Como 1907, the Serie A football club currently in ninth place, has made a significant move beyond the pitch with the launch of Como Ventures. This new platform aims to serve as a 'vanguard' for start-ups, offering access to Como 1907's global brand, local operations, and The Players Fund's extensive network of athletes, capital, investors, and operators.

The collaboration between The Players Fund and Como Ventures promises to deliver real-world testing, global visibility, and a shared ambition. The Players Fund, an athlete-led venture capital firm backed by Ben Stokes and featuring investors like Jessica Ennis-Hill, Stuart Broad, and Allyson Felix, will play a pivotal role in this venture.

Ryan Shelton, Como 1907's chief revenue officer, expressed his excitement about the new venture, stating that it is a natural extension of the club's unique qualities. He believes that founders will find a platform here that they cannot find elsewhere, combining Lake Como's cultural magnetism with global-scale athlete and investor access.

Andy Marston from The Players Fund is equally delighted with the launch, describing the collaboration as a 'global entry' point. The Players Fund has previously backed notable ventures such as Naomi Osaka's media company, Hana Kuma, and the high-end ticketing marketplace, Seat Unique. They will also advise Como 1907 on various investment opportunities.

Cesc Fabregas, a former Arsenal and Chelsea player who manages Como 1907 and is also a shareholder, is another key figure in this venture. Como 1907's current standing in Serie A is ninth, and their only win so far this season was against Lazio. They are heading to Fiorentina for their next game, and their next home match is against Jamie Vardy's Cremonese.

It's worth noting that Como 1907 has its own women's team, separate from the Como women's club owned by Mercury13. Besides Ben Stokes, the investment fund associated with Serie A team Como 1907 includes other athletes such as England cricketer Jos Buttler among more than 50 sportspeople involved.

This innovative step by Como 1907, combining sports and business, is set to create exciting opportunities for start-ups and investors alike.
